First Petunia grown from seed is out. Pink and white striped.
Malcolmia maritima, first flowering too. Started on the "throw a bit of
seed on the ground" system.
This is a blog of what's happening in my garden. Since I potter around in it most days, there should be loads of tedious detail. It's mainly for me but it you enjoy it that's great! The garden is an urban garden in Cheltenham, UK. The soil is very free draining and a little alkaline. Some parts are sunny but there's a lot of shade too. The location and a large wall down one side mean that I can get quite a few tender plants through the winter.

Dianthus deltoides 'Flashing Light' (mutant)
Horribly blurred photo through a magnifying glass but on the left is the "standard" flower but on
the right is the single lighter coloured mutant I found today.

Reichardia Picroides
Flowering now, but still looks like a scruffy weed! Harvested some leaves and put with tomatoes
and a honey/mustard dressing. A lot nicer than you'd expect :)

Apple thinning
Taken about a bucket of 3cm apples off the Ashmead's Kernal. It set about
1000 fruit and some branches were near the ground under the weight. Should
reduce "bitter pit" and "biennial bearing" Plan is that no developing
fruit should be within 10cm of any other. Think I've got about 1/4 of the
job done. Realise I'll need to get the step ladder out and reflect on the
expression "low hanging fruit"

Purple Flowers
A low growing thyme and some Surfinas. Surfinas are a modern form of
Petunia that seems to flower for months and shrugs off the rain.

Lilies
The Lilium Regales are blooming well.
The Melon plant (Minnesota Midget) is looking quite sickly.
Sowed some more Portulaca grandiflora seeds in a sunny dry spot
Tayberry and Gooseberry fruiting well
Potato "Home Guard" plant keeled over and looks sick. Probably ready to
harvest.
